Leawood Kansas

Located in eastern Johnson County, Leawood is a mid-sized Kansas town and an inner-ring suburb with easy access to Kansas City and other nearby towns and cities. Leawood enjoys the advantages of a low Midwestern cost-of-living, and middle-class to upscale neighborhoods and shopping districts. Leawood is bordered by Prairie Village, Kansas, to the north, Overland Park, Kansas, to the west and south, and Kansas City, Missouri, to the east, just across the state line.

Schools

Leawood enjoys the reputation of the rest of Johnson County as having excellent schools. Public education is provided by two school districts, the Shawnee Mission District and the Blue Valley District. Several private schools including the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy and the Accelerated High School also provide education in the area.

Amenities

Arts are an important facet of Leawood culture. The city hosts numerous concerts, art shows, and theatre performances, led by the Leawood Arts Council. Like many cities and towns in the area, greenspace is a vital part of the community. Leawood boasts six parks within the city limits, as well as significant urban trails. The Tomahawk Creek Greenway, a four-mile-path, cuts through the city and connects Leawood City Park and Tomahawk Creek Park. Town Center Plaza, a large, open-air, upscale shopping center acts as a hub of social and economic activity and also provides dozens of shopping and eating opportunities.

Economy

Leawood boasts several major employers, which help to keep jobs within the city limits. Sprint, CBiZ, Select Quote, and A.B. May are among the top employers in the city.

Transportation

Leawood is conveniently located directly between the two largest cities in the region. I-435, the area’s major outer highway loop, runs through Leawood, and connects to every other major highway in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is an easy 40 minutes away, and the largest local university, University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC), is a quick 20-minute commute.
